Andrei Anastasescu was born 1981 in Râmnicu-Vâlcea, Romania. He studied German and Dutch language and literature as well as literary translation in Bucharest and worked among others as an editor. Today he lives in Bucharest, working at the German Buchinformationszentrum and as a translator for German and Dutch literature.
From German he translated Die neuen Leiden des jungen W. by Ulrich Plenzdorf, Heimsuchung by Jenny Erpenbeck and Berliner Kindheit um neunzehnhundert by Walter Benjamin; from Dutch Schaduwkind by P. F. Thomése, Een schitterend gebrek by Arthur Japin and De passievrucht by Karel Glastra van Loon.
In May 2009 he received the „Schritte“(steps)-scholarship from the S. Fischer Stiftung and in February 2010 a translator grant from the Robert Bosch Stiftung. Both grants were connected to a one month residence at the Literarische Colloquium Berlin.
